Desert Springs has partnered with the Palomino Inter-Faith Coalition. The purpose of the coalition is to bring together various faith based organizations and agencies to support thePalomino Community with services that will enhance, educate and assist the well-being of our children and families regardless of age, race, economic or religious preference. Some of the ways Desert Springs assist are: 

Food Bank  – we provide food on a monthly basis, organize the food bank and participate on Friday’s in handing out the food to the families. Continued support of donated food helps keep our pantry stocked.  Maribel Ornelas at  or 602-449-2800.

 

Clothing Closet  – we provide clothing to the closet which is sold to the families and the proceeds go back to the closet for purchasing of uniforms for all the children. Palomino is the only school in the district that requires uniforms for their students.  Bonnie Stevens  or 602-200-4968

Woman’s Expo – For the past 3 years Palomino has celebrated the women in our community. Every April we have "Dia de la Mujer", to honor and support our sisters, daughters, mothers & grandmothers. During this Saturday event we offer education on domestic violence, nutrition, health, parenting, literacy, hygiene and much more. This is a day to spoil our women and let them know we appreciate howspecial they are. This year our event will take place March 13, 2010.  We have many areas that need assistance.  Please contact Maribel Ornelas at   or 602-449-2800 or Amy Randolph .

Kitchen on the Streets is a new program to Palomino that provides weekend backpacks of food to students that might go hungry.  The partnership with Kitchen on the Streets provides packing opportunities on Saturday mornings twice a month and providing meals for students.  Contact Lisa Scarpinato at t or 480-200-4968.

ESL Adult Programs that run through out the year on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:30 pm is always looking for tutors (no experience needed) to teach English as a Second Language.  Please contact Maribel Ornelas at   or 602-449-2800.

Mobile Food Pantry is a new program partnered with St. Mary's Food Bank to provide once-a-month fresh produce to be delivered to thePalomino community.  Assistance with food distribution once a month is appreciated during a 3 hours block is needed.  Please contact Molly Kemp at   602-449-2215.

Adopt-a-Class is held the last Friday before winter break.  A classroom is adopted to provide a holiday gift for each child in the class (not to exceed $15 per child) and a classroom party.  This programs is going on it's 6th year of providing a small token of love to the students who might not otherwise receive a holiday treat.  Please contact Millie Cotton at  or 602-449-2800.
